Recurring Yeast Infections
|
| |
|
Almost a quarter or all women will suffer from a recurring yeast infection |
Women, particularly during their child bearing years - 15 to 45 years of age, have a better than 90% chance of
suffering from a yeast infection. The pain and discomfort of a yeast infection is known by many women. Not only is
there a 90% chance of yeast infection, fully half of those women will have multiple occasions of yeast
infection.
Many time gynecologists will prescribe an over-the-counter medication and in a lot of cases that will do the trick.
In a few days the infection clears up and doesn’t show up again; problem solved. But that 50% stat mentioned
earlier find that there infection returns. Recurring yeast infections are suffered by women who have 4 or more
infections in a year.
It is estimated that around 22% of women have had to deal with recurring yeast infections. That means that means
that as many as 70 million women in the United States alone, suffer with recurring yeast infections. Recurring
infections can go on for months and even years.
The gamut of discomfort ranges from the occasional itch to a life threatening situations. The large majority of the
infections are easily treated either at home or with effective over-the-counter medications. Maybe that’s why
doctors pay little attention to most yeast infections. Some doctors view it as trivial minor irritant.
When a woman has a recurring yeast infection, it is a sign that her health is out of balance. Generally steps must
be taken to eliminate the cause for recurring yeast infections to be beat. The cause and symptoms are two different
things. Most over-the-counter will eliminate the symptoms but the root cause is probably still there.
One of the frequent causes of yeast infection is birth control pills. One of the main side effects of the pill is
that the pH level in the vagina will be altered. Hormonal levels are also changed. If you can justify the timing of
your initial yeast infection and starting the pill then using another method of birth control is recommended.
One of the other problems with recurring yeast infection is that if you are in a relationship, chances are your
partner also has the infection. You should both use treatment and refrain from unprotected sex. If you don’t both
protect yourselves, you are doomed to and endless loop of giving and receiving.
Another frequent symptom of a vaginal yeast infection is itch and irritation, maybe to the point of making sex
uncomfortable.
Recurring yeast infection will alert you to other health problems. Health problems like diabetes, immune system
deficiencies, hormonal imbalances and even cancer.
Diet can be a major contributor to recurring yeast infections. Yeast loves sugar and white starches. Avoid any
processed foods that are high in sugar or starch content.
Taking plain yogurt with acidophilus will fight the evil yeast in your body. Acidophilus is one of the bacteria
that inhibits yeast growth and maintains the balance.
