Rectal Yeast Infection
|
|
Rectal yeast infection is more than just a pain in the butt. |
Most people when thinking about yeast infection would think about vaginal yeast infection. After all it is the
predominant yeast infection. Rectal yeast infection is caused by the same fungus involved in the vagina. What you
have to go to see a doctor about is whether it is in fact a yeast infection and not some other of the numerous
digestive tract problems. Only a doctor can tell.
Oral thrush and rectal yeast infections are closely related. That may seem odd to you but really the mouth is the
start of the digestion process while the rectum is the last step.
Symptoms of rectal yeast infection are itching, swelling, burning and dryness. These symptoms range from mild to
painful discomfort.
Rectal yeast infections could have various causes. Pregnancy, sexual transmission, antibiotics and diet can all
introduce rectal yeast infections. Also people with immune system issues such as HIV, diabetes or chemotherapy are
likely candidates for all kinds of yeast infections, including rectal yeast infection.
There is a delicate balance in the intestinal tract. Candida albicans is balanced by lactobacillus acidophilus in
the tract. When the lactobacillus acidophilus is reduced, then the candida albicans have nothing to stop them from
reproducing to the rate where the host ends up with a yeast infection.
To treat a rectal yeast infection you first have to identify the root causes. There are over the counter products
that will treat the symptoms and make them disappear for a while, but unless the root cause is treated, inevitably
the yeast infection will return.
About the only reliable home remedy is plain yogurt. Anything else will be prescribed by your doctor. If you are
having issues with your digestive tract including rectal yeast infection, you need the opinion of a doctor because
there are some tests that can identify many problems.
