Penile Yeast Infection

Penile Yeast Infecton; how it starts, what it does and how to treat it.

Penile yeast infection is a quite a common condition, however it is much more prevalent in men who are uncircumcised. Men who are circumcised rarely contract penile yeast infections. The reason for this is that the glans is dry and cool on a circumcised penis. Yeast likes it warm and moist, much like the skin underneath the foreskin.

Generally penile yeast infection occurs under the foreskin or on the glans. The infection can get into the urethra. This affliction causes similar discomfort that women experience. It may have discharge and often itches on the inside. There is a chance that the infection travels from the urethra on to the prostate gland. This does happen but rarely.

Three possible causes of penis yeast infection involve sex. Vaginal yeast infections can be transferred to the penis during intercourse. Oral sex from a partner with thrush (yeast infection in the mouth) also can initiate a penile yeast infection. Anal sex also can transfer infection without protection. Protected sex although not perfect is a lot better than unprotected sex.

The longer that a yeast infection is on the skin of a penis, the harder it is to treat. If treated early in it`s life cycle, problems will be minimized. In defence against the infection, the skin will harden in areas hardest hit by the infection. When a man gets an erection, the dried skin will crack and can be very painful.

Not all skin marks on a penis are yeast infections. There are conditions like Fordyce disease or Hirsuties papillaris genitalis. These conditions could be mistaken for a penis yeast infection. Both of those diseases are pretty much harmless although they can raise the sensitivity of the penis.

When men go to their doctors about a penile yeast infection, chances are the doctor will recommend a product like Diflucan. This product comes in pills and topical creams. Another product that men use to deal with a penile yeast infection is Monistat 7, a treatment many women use for vaginal yeast infections. These remedies work most of the time.

There are a number of possible cures for penis yeast infection. An old time but very effective treatment is using Gentian Violet. It now comes in a solution that you just apply to the skin patches. Other remedies include coconut oil, and Mediterranean oregano oil.
